Hana Pīhoihoi

Exciting Adventure

I felt so at ease and comfortable with Lisa and Kerry, which are life long friends who don't live in the same state but keep in touch by doing exciting adventures together. On this Hawaii trip, they rode in a helicopter to Hana, and requested to spend time with a local from Maui. Their concierge from Maui Concierge Service suggested a hula lesson with Maui Hula Wahine! The ladies learned how to braid flower bracelets with tī leaf and plumerias. I am so grateful for their company and their genuine appreciation for the Hawaiian culture.

Hula me Maui Heʻenalu Na Wahine

Hula with Maui Surfer Girls

Picture
Hula lessons on the beach with a bunch of women is a magical event. Maui Surfer Girls brings a bunch of women together, houses them, takes them on surf adventures and invites me to give a hula lesson!
The first part of my hula lesson began with an introduction of myself and how meaningful it was for me to be with them in the ahupuaʻa of Olowalu, where my Hawaiian ohana started their life on Maui. We chit chatted about hula while we made flower adornments for our hair. It was so nice catch up with some of the girls who were here the last time I did a hula lesson with them.
With our toes in the sand and the sun shining we found a nice spot under the shade of a near by Keawe tree to learn hula. The women learned to move their hula hips, roll their fingers and convey meaning to the Hawaiian words with their body. Something special happened that day, women were united with the Hawaiian culture on the unique island of Maui, with me Maui Hula Wahine.

Hula Me Ka Ohana Parnow Ma Kāʻanapali
Hula with the Parnow family at Kāʻanapali beach

    Picture
Family vacations equal family memories. The Parnow ohana waited patiently for their hula lesson. The recent cold front brought an abundance of rain, so they wanted to reschedule until it passed. They really wanted to do their lesson outside and it finally worked out on their last day on Maui. Hula was something that the entire family could learn and do together.
Our setting took place on the gorgeous sandy beach of Kāʻanapali. The weather was perfect, sunny with a little bit of trade winds. We found a shady spot nearby and prepared our hearts, minds and bodies for hula. With every hula move learned, the women and girls were receptive and engaged. They truly enjoyed themselves and so did I.

Return visit from Marion of Canda
    May 3,2017

I have great joy in making new friends! Marion had a hula lesson with me a year ago with her daughter and granddaughter. This year she returned with her good friend, Debra and requested another hula and lei making lesson.
This time Marion was excited to get her hula practice on. She was familiar with the steps and it was fun to watch her teach Debra a few things. As we sat and made leis we exchanged information from the places we are from. I learned about Canada and the stampede that happens once a year in Calvary. Friendships made from hula lessons are the best! Mahalo Marion and Debra!

Nā Hoahānau, Cassidy a me Leighann

    Cousins, Cassidy and Leighann
    July 8, 2017

It's an honor to be a part of someone's dream. Cassidy of New York really wanted to have a hula lesson on her visit to Maui. Due to some unfortunate circumstances she wasn't able to have one, until they found Maui HulaWahine! Thank you Maui Concierge Service!
Cassidy and Leighann enjoyed making flower rosettes and flower bracelets to get them ready for some hula. We danced privately on their deck, then moved to a private beach in front of their resort. We had a little adventure together that I'll never forget. They were able to take me to a private beach that I have never been to before. It was such a joy to spend the morning with two of the sweetest girls I have ever met! Mahalo!
